If you live in an area receiving a lot of rainfall and floods, possibilities are that you are a victim of a flooded house and / or flooded carpet. While there are individuals that spend thousands of dollars annually replacing their flooded carpets; unknown to them, is that they can easily restore the water-damaged carpets by themselves or have them professionally cleaned by specialists.

Initially, you need to recognize the source of the water. This in turn will determine if you can save your carpet and / or rugs. There are two kinds of water, namely; sanitary and unsanitary. Sanitary water damage originates from rain and piped water. Whereas unsanitary water originates from overflowing toilets, as well as other sources which can be contaminated. You can also employ a dehumidifier to ensure that the drying process takes a short time.

Attempt as much as possible to minimize foot traffic on the area. This is to ensures that the carpet dries well. Minimizing foot traffic also guarantees that there is optimum air flow to the wet areas, therefore preventing it from weakening.

When the flooded carpet has not dried after 12 hours, you should call in a professional carpet cleaner to do the work. This is so as to avoid molding and allergens from infesting your carpet.
