Carpet Water Stains

Removing Carpet Water Stains

Regrettably, carpets do and can stain. Wine, cola, blood and makeup can all leave marks which may be difficult to remove from carpet. However, who’d imagine that plain old water could actually stain a carpet? Well, it can and consequently it does. Small quantities of sediment dissolved in the water can be left behind once a water spot dries, leaving you tell tale carpet water stains. Fortunately, in most cases, carpet water stains are not difficult to remove.

Things Needed:

Clean dry terry towel
Clean water
White vinegar

Directions:

Natural Fibers

  • Water stains on natural fibers, as a result, may develop into what is referred to as “cellulose browning”. This becomes a water stain which can only solely be removed by a trained carpet cleaning technician.

Synthetic Fibers (Nylon, Polypropylene)

  • Combine a solution of half water together with half white vinegar. The vinegar is acidic and will neutralize the alkalinity of the sediment that is certainly making the water stain.
  • Dampen the clean white terry towel with the premixed water and vinegar solution.
  • Rub (do not blot) the towel lightly over the water spot. The aim of this, is to have the tips of the carpet fibers wet while not to soak the carpet as such.
  • Let the carpet fibers dry. Hopefully, the stain has come out or probably has otherwise lessened. If the stain is diminished but is still noticeable, repeat the water/vinegar procedure until the stain has gone. Allowing the fibers to dry in between each application.

Guidelines:

  • First of all, the most significant thing you can do to stop your carpet from staining, is react promptly to any spills. Blot up liquids using plain white paper towels or either a clean absorbent cloth. Blot (never rub) the spill and work from the outside in to the middle. Rubbing will only spread the stain over a bigger area.
  • Solutions that clean clothing will often clean carpets also. Especially noteworthy – a laundry pre-treating product on a fresh spill will most likely help to prevent it from permanently staining.
  • Prior to trying to remove any stains from your carpet, firstly, test in an inconspicuous spot first.
